Lionsgate
There is no shortage of movies out there featuring vigilante killers extracting justice on people that wronged them but I don’t think I’ve ever rooted for anyone harder than I’ve rooted for John Wick.
In 2014, Keanu Reeves stepped into the titular role of an assassin hellbent on avenging the lives of his wife and the dog she gifted him and helped create a slick revenge fantasy to top all revenge fantasies that left practically everyone who watched the movie begging for more.
The original movie crafted a universe that was just begging to be explored and viewers got the chance to do exactly that a few years later in the form of John Wick 2, a fantastic sequel that dove headfirst into the deadly underworld our hero inhabits.
Both movies garnered heaps of critical praise and, perhaps more importantly, heaps of money at the box office. As a result, the film officially turned into a full-fledged franchise with the recent release of John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum, which finally dethroned Avengers: Endgame as the top money-maker at the box office when it hit theaters last week.
I haven’t seen the latest installment yet, but from what I’ve heard, it’s just begging for a follow-up and it thankfully didn’t take long after its release for Lionsgate to announce we’re officially getting one after revealing the news in some very on-brand text messages to Polygon and some lucky fans.
