The third season of The Problem with Jon Stewart will reportedly no longer be moving forward at AppleTV+ due to a creative dispute between the tech giant and host Jon Stewart.
According to reports, the series, which first debuted back in 2021 with a companion podcast, has been effectively canceled as a result of Apple’s issues with planned episodes about Chia and Artificial Intelligence.
“Mr. Stewart and Apple executives had disagreements over some of the topics and guests The Provlem, two of the people said. Mr. Stewart told members of his staff on Thursday that potential show topics related to China and artificial intelligence were causing concern among Apple executives, a person with knowledge of the meeting said,” reported the New York Times.
“As the 2024 presidential campaign begins to heat up, there was potential for further creative disagreements, one of the people said.”
AppleTV+ did not return the New York Times‘ request for comment.
Stewart’s departure from his Apple series conveniently comes at a time when The Daily Show, the series that turned him into a star, is in search of a new host following the departure of Stewart’s successor Trevor Noah.
Given that we’re about to enter an election year in 2024, Comedy Central would be crazy if they didn’t, at the very least, give Stewart a call to see if he had any interest in returning to the host’s chair.
The 60-year-old Stewart originally hosted The Daily Show for 16 years from 1999 to 2015. In the years since walking away from The Daily Show, Stewart has become a prominent and vocal advocate for 9/11 first responders and war veterans’ health benefits.
Over the course of his decades-long career — Stewart first started acting and performing in the early 1990s — he has won 22 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Grammys, and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which was awarded to him last year.
