Jon Stewart had a scary moment on Th Daily Show on Monday night when he smashed a ‘World’s Most Dad’ coffee mug after an impassioned rant and gashed his hand in the process. Stewart was quick to remark “I’ll be going to the hospital” while quickly hiding his hand under the desk.
The comedian prefaced his injury on X (née Twitter) joking that Monday night’s show was going to be a “bloody good episode” which fully revealing that he’d gashed up his hand and would require medical attention in the middle of the episode before later interviewing guest Rupa Bhattacharyya.

The moment comes at the exact 17-minute mark in this video where Jon Stewart is ranting and raving about… *gestures around* … everything (but mostly the high cost of prescription drugs). I think he planned to break the mug but I don’t think he planned to have a shard dice up his hand:
He’s quick to hide his hand and the segment is edited to cut out the part where Jon treats his wound on TV. EW was able to clip this screen grab of Jon Stewart’s bloody hand before it was edited out of the clip above:

When Jon Stewart finished up his rant with his right hand underneath the desk he came back for this sit-down interview with guest Rupa Bhattacharyya. It was at that point that we could see his hand covered in a bandage that Jon was already bleeding through:

Ultimately, if Jon Stewart was seriously injured he would’ve treated it on the spot. There’s no ‘the show must go on’ when the host suffers a serious injury. But it sure looked like some liquid stitches (or regular stitches) might be in his future after the amount of blood he was seen dripping out in the Rupa Bhattacharyya interview.
During the interview, Jon Stewart remarked “it makes me so angry, I want to smash another mug… Oh, wow, this thing’s really coming out. In the commercial break, I had a lightsaber battle with one of the crew members, and that’s how that happened.”
