There are few projects in modern Hollywood history that are as mythic as Quentin Tarantino’s supposedly R-rated Star Trek film, which the iconic writer/director mulled making for a few years. Had Tarantino taken a crack at the Star Trek, it likely would have featured the Star Trek ’09 crew of Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban.

Speaking to BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast ahead of the release of his new pirate movie The Bluff — hitting Prime Video on February 25 — Karl Urban shared what he knew about Quentin Tarantino’s infamously unmade Star Trek script and how much he would’ve loved to make it.

Former Star Trek actor Karl Urban says he never got the chance to read the script that Quentin Tarantino wrote for the franchise

ERIC ITALIANO, BROBIBLE: Quick Star Trek question — did you ever read the Tarantino script?

KARL URBAN: No, mate, I never saw it. I thought the idea of Quentin Tarantino writing and directing Star Trek was super interesting. But that’s about all I know. I would have loved to read it.

BROBIBLE: From your perspective, if a fourth film had happened, what would you have liked to explore?

KARL URBAN: Honestly, just being back with the crew — Chris, Simon, Zach, John, Zoe. Tragically, we wouldn’t have Anton again. That alone would’ve been enough reason to return. If it doesn’t happen, I’m fine with it. I wish whoever takes the next step all the best.

Alongside Urban, his latest film The Bluff also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Safia Oakley-Green, Vedanten Naidoo, Temuera Morrison with Ismael Cruz Cordova. You can check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Bluff ahead of its streaming debut on Prime Video on Wednesday, February 25, below.

“When her tranquil life on a remote island is shattered by the return of her vengeful former captain, a skilled ex-pirate (Chopra Jonas) must confront her bloody past and unleash her deadly talents to save her family from a siege led by the ruthless Captain Connor (Urban).”
