Before music industry superstar Diddy faced dozens of charges of racketeering and sex traffic, it was actor and comedian Katt Williams who first sounded the alarm on his behavior. Williams appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast and intimated that Diddy offered him $50 million (several times) for sex acts.
At the time, Williams’ comments were taken as a joke. But he was entirely serious, and Williams recently explained to GQ Magazine why he felt he needed to be the one to finally address Diddy in a public manner.
“So when I was a young man, Tupac was my favorite artist,” Williams began telling Matthew Trammell. “I loved Tupac. And I felt like we were kindred spirits. So if I hear you responsible for knocking my n—- off, I don’t give a f— what job I end up being in, I don’t care how things go, if I can get a way to get you, that’s what I’m all about. I just don’t like you walking around scot-free. ’Cause you a demon, and I know demons are powerful, but I know why they’re powerful…. It’s cold spiritual warfare going on out here in the real world. And part of my job is to not lose focus on that.”
But why did Williams choose Sharpe’s podcast as his outlet? Why didn’t he go to a magazine or a newspaper?
“Shannon is in the rare position where people aren’t sure where his allegiance lies,” he told Trammell “People aren’t sure if Shannon been bought and paid for. Is he in the pocket, ’cause these n—– paying him, or is he really just a regular? There’s so many questions that it gives me the opportunity to allow this Black man to show his true colors, while I show mine.”
Williams told Trammell that Sharpe represented the exact person he wanted to reach. He didn’t back down from the comments either. He told Trammell that everything he said was the truth. The full interview addresses several topics. But it’s the Diddy aspect that stands out. And to this day, Williams stands out as one of the first big Hollywood superstars to address the matter.
