Based on David Grann’s broadly lauded best-selling book, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

According to reports from earlier this year, Leonardo DiCaprio apparently believes that film fans should be bracing themselves for another Marty Scorsese masterpiece.

“I was talking to Leo about it. We had lunch before I came here. He said, ‘Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece,’” costume designer Jacqueline West recently said.

“I thought for Leo to say that, was something. He doesn’t say that lightly. He has been in the business since he was a little boy,” said West, who worked with DiCaprio on the 2015 film The Revenant. [via Deadline]

Killers of the Flower Moon is Scorsese’s tenth collaboration with Robert De Niro and his sixth with DiCaprio. De Niro and Scorsese have previously worked together on Taxi Driver, New York New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Casino, and The Irishman.

Similarly, the duo of Marty and Leo have made Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street together.

Given that the film is releasing during the thick of Fall, that’s likely a sign that AppleTV+ believes they have an Academy Award contender on their hands, which certainly isn’t surprising given the iconic talent involved in the project.
