Kim Novak, the 93-year-old star of Alfred Hitchcok’s Vertigo star, 93, has said she “would never have approved” of Sydney Sweeney portraying her in Scandalous!, an in-development film about her romance with Sammy Davis Jr. Essentially, Novak believes Sweeney is too sexy.
In a recent interview, Kim Novak detailed why she believes that Sydney Sweeney is a poor choice to play her in the film, saying that her inherent sex appeal is not a right fit for the story.
While Scandalous! was announced in the Fall of 2024 with Oscar nominated actor Colman Domingo set to direct, there have been scant updates on the project since.
Hollywood icon Kim Novak rips the decision to cast Sydney Sweeney as her in upcoming film due to her sex appeal
“I would never have approved,” Novak told The Times of London about Sweeney’s casting, sayng she “sticks out so much above the waist.”
“There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time. She was totally wrong to play me.”
Opposite Sweeney is set to be Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk breakout David Jonsson, whom we spoke to about the project last Fall.
“First and foremost, I find both of those wonderful human beings [Colman Domingo and Sydney Sweeney] are incredibly exciting, and I do think that they’re inspiring in many ways. I didn’t any readings [audition] — I actually just met with them, and we spoke about it for a long time,” Jonsson told BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast.
“We spoke about what we wanted to do and playing an icon like Sammy Davis Jr. is no small feat. But also playing Kim Novak, which Sydney is wonderfully gonna inhabit, we had to talk about these things. You talk about these things through the eyes of ourselves, and as people making our way — including Colman, by the way — in Hollywood, you have quote-unquote experiences that are almost akin to the people we’re about to inhabit.”
Novak and the iconic Sammy Davis Jr. Novak and Davis met as guests on The Steve Allen Show in 1956. Their relationship became public in 1958, and the rampant racism of the era threatened to derail both of their careers.
Sweeney will next be seen starring in the third and final season of HBO’s Euphoria, which will see her character selling adult content online. Euphoria season three will premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 12.
