A woman is outraged after she decided to check the price of a small bottle of water in her Las Vegas hotel minibar.
TikTok user Kate (@_kateharley) explained how she made this revelation in a video posted earlier this week. “I’m staying at a hotel in Vegas, and I checked in, and I’m like, I could really go for a water,” she says to start the video. “So there’s these little waters right here.”
Kate flips the camera around to show her hotel minibar, which is equipped with Aquafina and Fiji water bottles.
“So out of curiosity, before I drink one, I’m like, how expensive is this water going to be?” Kate says. “So I scan the little QR code. $18. For a bottle of water. I will kindly be drinking from the sink.”
Viewers React To The High Cost Of Las Vegas Hotel Water
In the comments section, viewers expressed disgust with the current state of hotel charges. One person said, “And they wonder why Vegas tourism rates are dropping dramatically. That’s insane.”
A second person said, “Vegas rule number one: Always stop at CVS for a case of water, food, and caffeine.”
Another person said, “Last week, I mistakenly grabbed a Keurig pod at the Cromwell in Vegas. $28?! For one cup of coffee.”
Someone else demanded that Kate name the specific hotel. An eagle-eyed commenter noted in response that the snack bags in front of the water are labeled Park MGM.
Is This An Unusually High Price For Bottled Water?
Kate isn’t the first person to raise an eyebrow at the price of hotel minibar water. In an Instagram post from 16 weeks ago, another Las Vegas traveler said the Fiji in his room, which looks to be the same 16.9-ounce bottles Kate encountered at the Park MGM.
A Reddit user, who posted to r/Vegas a year ago, said they heard about $18 minibar bottled water and wanted to know ahead of a trip if it was true. Several redditors encouraged buying bottled water ahead of time to avoid paying a markup.
Ultimately, hotel minibar drinks and snacks are marked up because of the convenience associated with having them right there in your room. The hotel has to buy the snacks, pay the people who restock and otherwise maintain the minibar, and still make a profit off of the exchange. That leads you to an $18 Fiji bottle.
@_kateharley I would actually dehydrate before paying that price for water #vegas #water #inflation
