Lauren Alaina appears to declare John Crist as dead to her in a new video on TikTok. The country music singer did not list the Christian comedian and YouTuber by name but you can fill in the blanks.

Literally!

Alaina, who finished as the runner-up to Scotty McCreery on Season 10 of American Idol, ultimately rose to the same amount of fame as the winner. She is 14 years and three albums into her country music career as a two-time CMT Music Award winner and a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Although Alania is currently (very) pregnant with her first child with her husband Cam Arnold, whom she married in 2024, the 30-year-old vocalist hopped on a viral trend to discuss her past. Kaitlin Butts’ new song ‘You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead To Me)’ is rising up the charts in large part because of TikTok.

The song title reflects the message. It is a song about a man in her past who is not actually dead but dead to her. One particular speaking part has become a “trending audio.”

You know, I think I have heard of that man,
I think, I think I heard he got run over by a train,
Mauled by a bear, maybe, hopefully

Lauren Alaina used the audio to discuss one of her ex-boyfriends. He has four letters in his first name and five letters in his last.

The real ones know she is likely referring to Christian comedian John Crist. Crist and Alaina briefly dated back in 2019.

It did not end well— as we can see from Alaina’s latest TikTok video. Crist was accused by five different women of sexually exploitative behavior and harassment just weeks after their breakup. He allegedly asked for sexual favors in exchange for tickets to his show, propositioned drunk women for sex, and repeatedly called women late at night while intoxicated.

The one thing that stopped me from believing he was creepy is John so proudly parades his face as a Christian. I’ve let myself believe that just because someone is a Christian means they won’t do something intentionally bad. But the truth is, John invited me to his apartment with the intention of sleeping with me after shaking hands with my boyfriend.

Crist admitted to some wrongdoing in a statement shortly thereafter.

Over the past number of years, various women have accused me of behavior that has been hurtful to them. While I am not guilty of everything I’ve been accused of, I confess to being guilty of this — I have treated relationships with women far too casually, in some cases even recklessly. My behavior has been destructive and sinful. I’ve sinned against God, against women and the people who I love the most. I have violated my own Christian beliefs, convictions and values, and have hurt many people in the process. I am sorry for the hurt and pain I have caused these women and will continue to seek their forgiveness. I have also hurt the name of Jesus and have sought His forgiveness.

He later released the following video:

Lauren Alaina never spoke about the intimate details of their relationship or the breakup. However, she released the song ‘What Do You Think Of?’ with Lukas Graham on her album Sitting Pretty On Top of the World. It was inspired about the sadness she felt after her very public split from Crist.

She also refuses to say his name during interviews.

Thus, using context clues, we can assume that it is John Crist who might not be dead but is dead to Lauren Alaina. She heared he got run over by a train or mauled by a bear, maybe, hopefully!
