Nearly nine years after Netflix cut ties with him, Louis C.K. is back on the streaming giant. According to reports, C.K. will release a new stand-up special, Ridiculous, on the streamer this summer, which will mark his first special released by a major distributor since 2017, when he last partnered with Netflix.

Almost a decade after being “canceled” and banished from mainstream pop culture, comedian Louis C.K.’s comeback is officially complete. According to reports, C.K. is set to get a new Netflix stand-up special and could potentially headline their Netflix Is A Joke comedy festival in May at the Hollywood Bowl alongside the likes of Shane Gillis, John Mulaney, and Marcello Hernández.

In November 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement, five women accused C.K. of exposing himself and masturbating in front of them, with C.K. admitting that the allegations were true, leading to networks/streamers such as Netflix, FX, and HBO to cut ties with him. At the height of his popularity, C.K. was one of the most famous and revered respected comics in the United States.

Louis C.K. reportedly making a return to mainstream comedy on Netflix has sparked a debate about whether “cancel culture” was ever even a real thing

In addition to the debate about the realities of cancel culture, one of the most common responses were jokes about what it is Louis was canceled for in the first place, and that was allegedly forcing women to watch him pleasure himself.

“Out of an abundance of caution, women in the front row should wear rain gear,” one tweet joked.

“You don’t want to be in the first few rows that’s the ‘splash zone’,” a second cracked.

“Just an hour of him jacking it in front of the audience,” a third humorously predicted.

After his “cancellation,” C.J. stepped back from the spotlight for roughly nine months before returning to stand-up in 2018, and self-released his special Sincerely Louis C.K. on his website in 2020 (which won a Grammy Award), followed by Sorry in 2021, and two more specials in 2023. He also routinely sold out major venues such as Madison Square Garden in recent years.
