You’re just asking for trouble when you hop behind the wheel while intoxicated. One man in Canada learned that the hard way after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, which would be a fairly straightforward story if not for the fact that he was pulled over in a pink Power Wheels jeep that maxes out at 5 MPH.
Drinking tends to be a bit of a double-edged sword when it comes to decision-making. Alcohol usually impairs your ability to think straight, but it also has an uncanny ability to make you believe something that is an objectively bad idea is actually a brilliant one in the moment.
That reality has led to plenty of people who have no business driving after throwing back some drinks telling themselves they’re more than capable of doing so, and there are sadly far too many situations where they’ve discovered that was not the case at the expense of innocent people who ended up sharing the road with them.
There are subsequently stiff penalties designed to deter that behavior, and a guy in British Columbia has found himself facing some repercussions after being hit with a DUI charge in a very unconventional vehicle.
Police in Canada arrested a man who was allegedly drunk when he took a pink Barbie Power Wheels jeep on a spin on a public road
According to the CBC, Kasper Lincoln, a resident of Prince George, British Columbia, helped himself to some adult beverages while hanging out with a friend on the morning of September 5th. He eventually decided he was in the mood for a Slurpee, and the two of them opted to head to a nearby 7-Eleven so he could scratch that itch.
However, Lincoln was feeling “lazy” and decided to commandeer a car that belonged to his roommate—or, more accurately, the child of the roommate who had bought them a Power Wheels Barbie Jeep Wrangler.
Lincoln estimates he reached a top speed of around three miles per hour during the drive that brought him to a busy street where he piloted the jeep in a lane that was closed to real, actual vehicles due to construction. It was there that he caught the attention of a police officer in an unmarked car, and he was pulled over near a gas station before things took a somewhat unexpected turn.
The officer who stopped Lincoln ran his name and discovered he had a suspended driver’s license before subjecting him to multiple breathalyzer tests that determined he was over the legal limit to drive. Under the law, the Power Wheels Jeep he was riding is classified as an “unlicensed motorized vehicle,” and that was enough to justify an arrest.
Lincoln acknowledged he was drinking before his joy ride while speaking with the outlet but says he still plans to fight the DUI charge in court.
