A man who was convicted of pointing a gun at Burger King drive-thru worker who wouldn’t accept drugs for payment will now be spending most, if not all, of the rest of his life behind bars.

The man, Eugene Robertson, who terrorized the Denver suburb of Aurora on Oct. 17, 2022 was sentenced to 143 years in prison last week.

On that night, Robertson not only pulled a gun on the Burger King drive-thru worker, he also ran around shooting at other people in the area, KOAA News reports.

After Robertson pointed the gun at the drive-thru worker, prosecutors said he walked into a convenience store across the street and pointed a gun at the head of a clerk. When Robertson saw there was a surveillance video camera system there, he shot at the screen and left, then shot toward two people outside in the parking lot, Kellner’s office said.

A witness at a convenience store where Robertson fleed after leaving the Burger King told police that Robertson was “talking about God” and carrying a Bible with a purple cover while he was going around shooting at people.

While inside the store he reportedly pointed a gun at a worker’s head, shot out TV showing security camera footage, and fired at two people outside the store, leading to a gun battle between Robertson and the witness who had retrieved his own handgun from his car.

He was arrested hiding behind some bushes at a friend’s apartment complex after firing off gun shots when she refused to open the door of her apartment, the Sentinel reported.

Officers also learned that Robertson had an outstanding warrant in connection with a March 2021 case where Robertson was allegedly involved in a vehicle crash and shooting, fled the scene, removed or lost his pants and flagged down an Aurora police officer, who arrested him on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm.

Somehow, no one was wounded, but Robertson was still found guilty of 17 crimes, including eight counts of attempted murder, as a result of his wild spree.

The 40-year-old could have received a maximum sentence of more than 400 years.

“We consider this 143 year sentence justice for the multiple victims he put in fear that night. Jurors recognized the severity of the crimes this defendant committed. We believe the judge imposed an appropriate sentence,” said Eric Ross, a spokesperson for 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner.
