‘This Is So Rude’: Man Goes To McDonald’s Drive Thru. Then His Order Requires Manager Approval

As a fast-food outlet, McDonald’s gets orders of all sizes. However, one customer’s order was so large, it seemingly required management approval.

The viral TikTok, which has garnered 104,700 views, starts off with user Brownie (@brownie9059) at the drive thru, where a voice from the speaker welcomes him and asks him if he is using the app before a worker invites him to make his order.

So, Brownie does just that—asking for no less than an Egg McMuffin and a whopping 11 Big Breakfast With Hotcakes meals.

According to the McDonald’s website, a Big Breakfast with Hotcakes meal includes a biscuit, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns and hotcakes with a side of butter and maple syrup. The meal contains 1340 calories in total.

“You said eleven Big Breakfasts with hotcakes?” the worker asks.

“Eleven, yes,” the TikToker replies.

When the worker remarks that this order will “probably take a while,” Brownie can’t help but laugh, responding by saying, “Well, I got eight hungry kids at the house, so that’s cool, bro.”

Surprisingly, the worker then says that he actually needs manager approval, which causes Brownie to laugh again.

While the manager approves the order, the price is absolutely heart stopping; setting the TikTok user back by $83.34 in total.

Brownie didn’t immediately respond to BroBible’s request for comment via TikTok direct message.

What Did Commenters Say?

Commenters were divided. Some failed to see the funny side, with one asking, “What’s so funny?”

Another was shocked by the price and wrote, “$83?? Damn, just buy some pancake.mix and some eggs. Save about $75.”

Similarly, a third added: “Could of cooked at home and saved money.”

A fourth commenter said, “I don’t think that’s really a drive-through order. Probably better to go inside if you’re not going to use the app.”

While a fifth asked, “Why would an order need to be approved?!?”

A sixth posed an answer to this commonly commented question, claiming that “after it reaches $50 you need a managers code to continue the order.”

Do McDonald’s Employees Need To Get Management Approval For Large Orders?

As some of the comments on Brownie’s TikTok implied, a 2024 TikTok by supposed McDonald’s worker @kaalen4 suggests that the employees do, in fact, need to get management approval for orders over a certain threshold.

The viral clip features a despairing McDonald’s employee shaking his head and putting his face in his hands as on-screen text read, “When the order is getting closer and closer to the $50 mark and now you’ll have to stop them to get a manager.”

BroBible was unable to independently verify this. McDonald’s didn’t immediately respond to BroBible’s request for comment via TikTok comment.

Given the sheer amount of viral TikToks circulating, the McDonald’s drive-thru really is the Wild West. When customers aren’t making wild requests for 11 Big Breakfast meals or frozen filet patties, the workers seemingly have to contend with headset interference from sophisticated pranksters, among other things. Rest assured, there’s never a quiet day at McDonald’s—especially for the workers.
