Man Makes Steak For Girlfriend. Then He Whips Out A Meat Scale. Why Are Viewers Calling It A Red Flag?

A Montreal woman showed off the steak dinner her boyfriend cooked for them. However, viewers weren’t as impressed when they saw him weighing the meat on a scale.

In a video with over 763,000 views, TikToker Kim (@kimstojan) films her boyfriend lifting a piece of steak onto a paper towel-covered meat scale.

On-screen text reads, “POV: your bf makes steaks for dinner, but he wants the bigger piece for more protein.”

He lifts the other half of the steak, which he cut in half for the couple to split, and weighs it.

“He really had to pull out the scale,” the caption reads.

Why Do Some People Weigh Their Steaks?

Meat scales are a popular way for gym-goers to calculate how much muscle-building protein they consume in a day, according to Bay Strength. Getting too little protein could prevent muscles from repairing and growing to their full potential after a tough gym session.

By measuring how many grams of meat they consume, they can plug the numbers into tracking apps to measure macros, or how much fat, carbs, and protein they’ve consumed that day.

On the r/xxfitness subreddit, users share why they benefit from using a food scale with every meal.

“I use it mostly for tracking protein! I’m into weightlifting and I find that generally if I’m getting enough protein that I stick to eating healthier,” one shared. “I mostly weight out chicken/fish for my dinners and protein powder. It helps me keep on track personally and I used to struggle with binging and purging/obsessive calorie counting and restricting.”

“I use my food scale to measure macros when I’m cutting, and then during maintenance I use it to measure protein. During a cut I’ll eat too much without the scale and otherwise I will underestimate my protein,” another wrote.

What Do Viewers Think Of The Meat Scale?

Viewers instantly criticized the TikToker’s boyfriend for several aspects of his steak dinner, including using the meat scale and splitting one steak in half.

“Get you a man who can afford 2 steaks next time,” one wrote.

Another suggested, “If you can’t tell by sight, then the protein difference is negligible.”

“I would never never never NEVER be with someone who wants to be SO SURE about getting bigger piece of something to eat,” a third remarked.

However, others came to the couple’s defense.

“People crying in the comments because they have no partner and no steak,” a viewer said.

“Goddd forbid people eat on a budget. Like damn maybe they couldn’t afford two??” a second added.

In a follow-up video, Kim films her boyfriend jokingly placing a single French fry on the scale.

“After public feedback i now recieve the larger half,” she wrote.
