After thousands witnessed a breathtaking fireball streak across the sky in western Europe, a meteorite crashed through the roof of a home in the city of Koblenz, Germany.
The International Meteor Organization (IMO) reports over 3,000 fireball sightings, as people saw it in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Germany. Witnesses also posted numerous video recordings on social media.
As the space rock broke apart in the atmosphere and scattered its pieces throughout the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, witnesses reported hearing several explosions.
