Waymo is bringing its driverless robotaxi services to Miami, and Miamians are interested to see how things work out.

On Thursday, Alphabet’s Waymo announced it was launching Waymo in Miami for residents in a 60-mile radius with plans to expand throughout the city.

Starting today, Waymo is welcoming the first public riders into our fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Miami. With nearly 10,000 residents already signed up, we will be inviting new riders on a rolling basis to ensure a seamless experience across our initial 60-square-mile service area. The territory includes Miami’s most iconic neighborhoods—from the Design District and Wynwood to Brickell and Coral Gables—with plans to expand to Miami International Airport soon.

“Miami is a city defined by its energy, myriad of global cultures, and its forward-looking spirit, and Waymo is proud to add to that momentum,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo. “We’re excited to offer its residents and visitors a safe, reliable, and magical way to move around and look forward to earning their trust with every ride.”

While many Miamians are excited about Waymo offering its services in the city, others are worried about safety issues, given that Miami was recently named one of the riskiest places to drive due to distracted drivers.

‘This is going to be the real test for Waymo, can it drive in Miami, everyone cutting them off no one respecting traffic laws, it should be interesting…’ commented one Miamian on X.

“Miami drivers are not ready for autonomous vehicles that follow laws,” said another user on X.

Miami residents on social media are sharing invite codes for those looking to test out the new Waymo services.
