Miley Cyrus has a phobia about paper. January Jones has a phobia about someone eating potato chips in her presence. They both thought we should know these things, so they shared about them on Thursday.
First up, Mad Men and The Last Man on Earth star January Jones revealed her phobia in a video message shared to Instagram. In the video, Jones criticized members of her family for not taking her phobia seriously.
“So, for today, I’d like to talk about something that I’ve been struggling with my whole life, which is called misophonia,” January Jones began her video. “My whole life. And it’s gotten progressively worse over the years.
“And I have a brother-in-law whose favorite food is chips. Just all the time, eating chips.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Misophonia is a disorder where you have a decreased tolerance to specific sounds and things you can sense related to them. While it doesn’t yet have official recognition as a distinct disorder, experts still recognize it.”
“And I have talked to him about this many times and he seems to think it’s funny to eat chips around me now, because it’s like an ongoing joke to see what happens, see what I do,” Jones continued. “And I just think it’s really unkind to my issue and also very dangerous for him.
“So what I didn’t do today, was record this video inside a prison. I mean, I’ve imaged many ways to do it too. But I haven’t. I didn’t. Not yet. Otherwise, he’s a really nice guy. And it’s his birthday today, so happy birthday. I hope you’re eating a f— load of chips.”
Later, on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ Miley Cyrus revealed her unusual phobia
During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, Miley Cyrus was asked about Christmas. It was then that she informed the world that she is “known as a little bit of a Grinch.”
“I hate paper,” she revealed, then pointed at a piece of paper. “Like I looking at that makes me want to vomit.”
When Kimmel moved the piece of paper away from her, Cyrus feigned gagging and told him moving it away from her somehow made it worse.
“The real problem for me with paper is when people have dry hands and they touch paper and then it’s Christmas and it’s cold and everyone’s hands are dry and they’re all touching paper,” she continued, gagging along the way.
“Like when someone sends me like a lovely letter, I just don’t even open it,” Cyrus added. She gags at the thought of paper, especially newspapers and cardboard. “It’s a phobia,” she said.
However, as Jimmy Kimmel pointed out, “What about rolling paper?”
“That’s fine!” she replied. “First of all, my hands aren’t dry. Okay. And neither are the papers because, I know you know, you have to lick the paper.”
Miley Cyrus said the phobia is getting worse, “so there does need to be some sort of intervention.” She is even considering being hypnotized about it because it is affecting her everyday life.
Also, much like with January Jones, Miley Cyrus said her family – her brothers, in particular – used to traumatize her using her phobia against her.
