Working on Easter Sunday can be wearing. But when customers are being annoying, especially in the service industry, things get even more frustrating.
While some of the best coffee shops can be drive-thrus, TikToker Maddie Klecker (@maddie_klecker) made a candid video about her exasperating experiences with customers—and she didn’t hold back.
Drive-Thru Barista Calls Out Annoying Customers
In the video, which was filmed in her car, Klecker explained that she was a manager at a drive-thru coffee shop and that, as usual, she was serving customers on Easter Sunday.
However, she arguably found the customers tiresome, as she noted how “it was apparently everyone’s first day on Earth.” After a church service, Klecker said that she received a rush of customers. “You would think like 90% of these people have never been through a drive-thru in their entire life before,” she complained.
She then went through a series of customer interactions that irritated her. The first one didn’t speak for fifteen seconds before snapping at her while they were thinking. They snapped as she clarified their order and then called someone to find out what they wanted in spite of the long line behind them.
The second customer was also long, taking 2 and a half minutes to order a smoothie, while the third couldn’t grasp how they couldn’t remove the cheese from a premade burrito. “Does it look like we have a full-sized kitchen in this 2×4 building?” she asked viewers. Meanwhile, a lady complained that they didn’t do decaf coffee, saying, “You’re a coffee shop and you don’t have coffee?”
A fifth customer expressed their surprise over the fact the drive-thru was open on Easter. “Well, ya. People are coming through. People are here. We’re busy,” she said in the clip. “So clearly if there’s a way to make money, we’re gonna be open.”
“That comment alone, hello? Why do you think we’re open? Because you guys have to come get 1500 calorie drinks.”
Klecker then remarked that it was a “stupid question.” She then noted how “over half” of people were in their Sunday best.
“And I’m not saying everyone that comes through needs to know exactly what they want every single time. But it gets to a point, OK? It gets to a point,” she explained. “Like, you actively chose to come here and you should like have a general idea of what you would want.”
Klecker didn’t immediately respond to BroBible’s request for comment. We reached out via Instagram direct message.
The video amassed 19,900 views.
What Did Commenters Say?
In the comments, users were mostly supportive. “It’s bad enough everybody wants everything to be open on Easter, like no those employees deserve a holiday as well,” one wrote.
“Sundays after church is the worst…” a second said. While a fellow Easter worker said: “The thing that irked me to no end yesterday was them calling and being like ‘Hey are you open?’ Did I not just greet you saying ‘Hi, what can I do for you?”
A fourth agreed, “Everyday people just get worse and worse. I had a customer call and personally complain about me cause we were very busy and apparently it was my fault.”
While a fifth admitted, “As a former 10 year Starbucks employee…. DT was my favorite bc I got to be sarcastic AF but sound nice.”
Klecker replied, “I loveeee orders for that reason too.”
Should You Pay It Forward For A Rude Customer In A Starbucks Drive-Thru?
As Klecker’s video shows, difficult customers are quite common in coffee drive-thrus, whether that be an independent brand or a larger chain like Starbucks. In another viral TikTok, one customer was shocked after witnessing how rude another customer was to the barista at the drive-thru Starbucks.
“I just went through the Starbucks drive-thru,” TikToker Kelly Spinelli (@kspins) said. “And while I was ordering my coffee, because I’m in a good mood and it’s the holiday season, I was gonna do a random act of kindness and pay for the beverage of the person behind me.”
“When I pulled forward, I hadn’t put my window up yet when they started their order,” she told viewers. “And they were so rude to the Starbucks attendant. Awful tone of voice, no thank you, demanding tone.”
“So, I totally changed my mind,” she concluded. “And I got to the window, and I talked to the attendant about it. I put the money in the tip jar instead.”
@maddie_klecker Back with the story times I suppose. Happy Easter! 🐥🐰
