Megan Moroney can neither confirm nor deny whether ‘Tennessee Orange’ is a song that is about, or was inspired by Morgan Wallen. However, the 26-year-old rising country music star finally set the record straight about her relationship with the multi-platinum recording artist, or whatever you want to call it.

There was never an official title for their “situationship” of sorts.

Moroney recently revealed that she is OG ‘Daddy Gang’ while sitting down with Alex Cooper on her No. 1 podcast, ‘Call Her Daddy.’ They discussed a variety of topics, from her double life as a theater kid and cheerleader in high school, sororities at the University of Georgia, to dating her brother’s best friend.

Of course, Cooper also asked Moroney the question for which everybody wants an answer.

Did she ever date Wallen?! It’s complicated.

Megan Moroney wore Tennessee Orange for him…

Moroney’s smash hit ‘Tennessee Orange’ was the song that really put her on the map. It tells the tale of a Georgia Bulldogs fan who fell for their arch nemeses, the Tennessee Volunteers.

The song might be a true story. Or, at the very least, inspired by true events.

Moroney graduated from UGA. She hates (or used to hate?) the University of Tennessee and its gaudy orange.

As soon as her song came out, rumors started to swirl about its meaning. There was a lot of speculation that Moroney’s lyrics are about Wallen. He later commented “GBO” (Go Big Orange) on one of her Instagram posts, to which she replied with a blushing emoji.

And then there was the t-shirt. How could we forget the t-shirt?!

Wallen owns the exact same shirt that Moroney wore in her post.

It was later confirmed that she was indeed wearing his shirt during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Highway.

“When I put a Tennessee shirt on, it just felt wrong. And I knew if it felt that wrong, then it would probably be either a funny story or a good song to write about. So I came up with the hook for it and brought it in and we wrote it. It is his shirt. But it’s just a shirt.”

That was a lie!

Morgan Wallen’s Tennessee shirt was more than just a t-shirt.

Alex Cooper asked Megan Moroney if she ever dated Morgan Wallen. The answer was yes, but also no.

“Never exclusively.” — Megan Moroney

Nashville’s self-proclaimed “emo cowgirl” went on to explain the unique dynamic. Their friendship did become more than a friendship at one point but it never quite worked out.

“Him and I met in 2020. Jon Langston actually introduced us, and so I was a senior in college. COVID hadn’t happened yet. His ‘Dangerous’ album wasn’t even out yet. We were friends for a long time, we were not just friends, and now we’re friends.

We weren’t exclusively dating ever, and I think both of our schedules, like when we try to hang out, it’s like, ‘Okay, we have this one day of the whole month where we’re both maybe in town, and then someone’s got something going on.’ It was like that sort of thing, but him and I are friends.”

— Megan Moroney

Moroney feels awkward talking about her titleless fling with Wallen because he is such a private person and has tried to avoid that question in any other interview so they quickly moved on. She also would not confirm that ‘Tennessee Orange’ is about him specifically, but you can read between the lines.

There is also a lot of speculation about Wallen’s song ‘Lies Lies Lies’ and whether it might be about Moroney.

That is one question that Moroney could not answer. Alex Cooper will have to do some more investigative journalism and find out.
