Netflix has reportedly handed out some absurd payments in order to make The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a reality. According to reports, the trio of Tarantino, star Brad Pitt and director David Fincher account for $80 million in budget spending.
According to a report from Puck News, the film’s star Brad Pitt — who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting actor for playing Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — is earning $40 million for the sequel, while writer Quentin Tarantino and director David Fincher are earning $20 million a piece.

“Brad Pitt is making $40 million to star and produce, per several sources; director David Fincher is getting $20 million, and writer-producer Quentin Tarantino was paid more than $20 million for a one-picture license to make the movie from his script (Tarantino always retains ownership of his material).” [via Puck News]
All told, sources indicate that Netflix has spent over $200 million on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which is also expected to get a full theatrical release — a rarity for the streamer.

At this time, while The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the film is confirmed to be release this year and will likely debut in the Fall given its prestige and potential as an award season play.
In addition to Pitt, the film will star Timothy Olyphant, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, Corey Fogelmanis, and JB Tadena. The Adventures of Cliff Booth is set in 1977, approximately eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
