A Las Vegas, Nevada resident who was recently visiting the Sunset Station Hotel and Casino miraculously turned a $3 bet into more than one million dollars. Some people just have all the luck.

“Congratulations to a local guest on hitting an incredible $1,048,675.87 jackpot playing IGT’s Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Big Money at Sunset Station last night!” the casino posted on social media with photos of the winning spin over the weekend.

Underneath the grand prize of $1,048,675.87, the slot machine also listed other potential winnings of $10,251.01 and $1.187.52. Either of those prizes would normally make for a good day, but taking home over a million dollars one $3 spin? That’s incredibly rare.

What are the odds of winning the grand prize on a slot machine?

In fact, it is so rare that, according to an article on King Casino, based on the amount won by the Vegas resident, it is probably somewhere between 50 million to one and up to 100 million to one.

However, as the Wheel of Fortune slot machine manufacturer’s website promotes, that particular game has created 1,200 millionaires, pays a $100,000 jackpot every 72 hours, and has awarded over $3.5 billion in jackpots over the years. What it doesn’t say is how many millions of dollars the game has taken from its players.

Also on the website, are three progressive jackpots that are currently up for grabs. One is a 25 cent slot machine in Michigan with a top prize of over $3.3 million, another is a dollar slot in Nevada with an almost $1.5 million grand prize, and a third that is another 25 cent slot in Mississippi with an over $1.3 jackpot.

The casinos love to promote these big wins to entice gamblers. For instance, 8 News Now in Las Vegas reported about another gambler on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa earlier this year that turned a $2.50 bet into $481,941.47. Just a month prior to that, someone turned a $9 bet into a $1.4 million payoff at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
