A massive new batch of photos from and details about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey have been released. The Odyssey will be released in theaters on Friday, July 17, 2026.

In a sprawling piece for Empire Magazine, movie fans are taken inside the world of Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated The Odyssey, which Oscar-nominated lead actor Matt Damon said was the best experience of his career.

“I saw the horse on the beach and I was just like, ‘F—,’ … It was just so cool,” Damon told Empire. “[It’s] exactly what you want of a summer movie … It should be the most massively entertaining film. It should feel mythic.”

Nolan added that the production shot over TWO MILLION FEET of film for the project.

“As a filmmaker, you’re looking for gaps in cinematic culture, things that haven’t been done before. And what I saw is that all of this great mythological cinematic work that I had grown up with – Ray Harryhausen movies and other things – I’d never seen that done with the sort of weight and credibility that an A-budget and a big Hollywood, IMAX production could do,” the Oscar winning director said.

The reason for the amount of film is due to the sheer scale of production, as Nolan revealed they were doing things like really filming Odysseus’ ship out on the ocean.

“We got the cast who play the crew of Odysseus’ ship out there on the real waves, in the real places,” he added.

“It’s vast and terrifying and wonderful and benevolent, as the conditions shift. We really wanted to capture how hard those journeys would have been for people. And the leap of faith that was being made in an unmapped, uncharted world… By embracing the physicality of the real world in the making of the film, you do inform the telling of the story in interesting ways. Because you’re confronted on a daily basis by the world pushing back at you.”

With this new batch of marketing for the film, it’s possible that the official release of the first teaser trailer is not far behind, perhaps attached to the upcoming holiday schedule of movie releases. While a teaser for The Odyssey played in theaters earlier this summer, it was never officially released online.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon in the lead role of of Odysseus alongside Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, and Lupita Nyong’o as Clytemnestra.

Additional cast members also include Robert Pattinson, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, Ryan Hurst, Anthony Molinari, and Logan Marshall-Green.
