North Carolina‘s Outer Banks, including Rodanthe which is the easternmost point of N.C. and Buxton, got pummeled by a Nor’Easter last weekend/this week. It led to four homes collapsing into the frozen Atlantic Ocean.

Footage of homes collapsing went viral on social media, along with videos of ice-laden Atlantic waters swallowing up streets as flooding took hold.

Nor’Easter Hits North Carolina

This certainly is not the first time homes in Rodanthe, N.C. have collapsed into the ocean during a major storm and it won’t be the last. Eroding beaches and rising seas have created an untenable situation in the once highly-sought after real estate market.

One clip on TikTok amassed 2.1 million views. It was shared by user @emilyycatt. In the clip, we see a street blanketed in snow banks with a powerful wind still ripping and then the ocean creeping up the street and into people’s yards.

One commenter said it best with “the flooding + snow combo would send me over the edge” as most people would not be able to keep their composure in weather conditions such as this.

Homes Collapsing Into The Ocean

Also on the Outer Banks in Buxton, four homes were said to have fallen into the ocean during the storm. 13News Now ran a segment showing the remaining structures after the Atlantic Ocean claimed the homes once worth a fortune.

As tragic as it is the homes were lost, there can be some solace found in the fact that they were unoccupied at the time they were taken by the Nor’Easter and rising tides.
