Parker McCollum is still trying to figure out who he is and he’s not afraid to own it. The country music star has calmed down some from his wild past but another experience with the psychedelic drug DMT is not something he would rule out in the future.

In fact, the 32-year-old recently admitted that he is likely willing to give it another try!

McCollum, one of the most outspoken artists in country music, often finds himself at the center of controversy. Sometimes it happens around him. Sometimes he inserts himself into the conversation.

A large part of that “controversy” might stem from McCollum’s (formerly) wild lifestyle. Up until very recently, he was a big partier who often drank and smoked until it was time for the next day to begin. Although those kinds of nights still go down every once in awhile, they are becoming fewer and farer between. Alcohol is not something that interests him.

However, McCollum still loves to smoke. Cannabis is less likely to ruin his life and it serves as an inspirational muse for some of his biggest hits. Weed continues to be the go-to drug of choice.

With that being said, Parker McCollum remains open to other harder drugs. He recently told the story of the time(s) did DMT during a conversation with Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie XO.

It happened in Austin, Texas around the age of 21. McCollum was living next to the campus of the University of Texas at the time.

There was this kid that we had gone to high school with. I didn’t know him in high school but my buddy did. He had gone to our high school and he was going to the University of Texas and he was a chemist, I think. He was making [DMT] … it was like, Monday morning, on the second floor of this co-op he was living in.

As for the experience, DMT was “strange.”

It sounds like a lie, like I’m making it up, but I’m not. There was this fire escape outside of window, so I was sitting on the fire escape outside of the window and I just saw——

My mom used to take us to this bed and breakfast for summer vacation in the hill country in Fredricksburg on the river. And I saw… that.

It didn’t last very long, it was pretty quick. It felt longer than it really was. It was maybe less than a couple minutes and it wasn’t anything, like, tripping out or going crazy. And then afterwards, I was extremely calm, kind of rejuvenated, felt crazy clarity mentally.

Bunnie asked him if he would do it again and he did not say no. It was an “I think so” with a smile.

Life today looks very different for Parker McCollum than it did 10 years ago. His lifestyle was not sustainable and it forced him to make some changes. Less alcohol, more weed. And maybe DMT?!
