Firmly atop the pop culture world these days, The Last of Us and The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal recently sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Esquire that details his recent and rapid rise to the summit of Hollywood.

In the interview, Pascal broached the topic of the next season of The Last of Us, which debuted to rave reviews and massive viewership earlier this year. Given that the rest of the series will be based on the events of The Last of Us: Part Two, fans who have played the game are already dreading the day that they have to relive that moment.

“It wouldn’t make sense to follow the first game so faithfully only to stray severely from the path. So, yeah, that’s my honest answer,” Pascal recently told Esquire about his preparation for the second season, which likely won’t hit HBO until 2025.

His co-star Bella Ramsey, who stars as Ellie, also chimed in on the impending doom of a twist, saying: “If that does take place in the show, I don’t know that I’m emotionally ready for it.”

If you’ve never played The Last of Us: Part Two and, for some reason, want to spoil the twist that Pascal is talking about, we’ll describe it below.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE LAST OF US: PART TWO AND SEASON TWO OF HBO’S THE LAST OF US WILL FOLLOW

If you’ll recall, in the season one finale, Joel kills numerous members of the Fireflys in cold blood in order to save Ellie, including a doctor that was about to perform surgery on her.

In The Last of Us: Part Two, that doctor’s daughter — a character named Abby Anderson that’s rescued by Ellie and Joel from a horde of infected before she finds out who they are — seeks revenge on the pair for what they did to her father.

Once safe from the horde, Joel, Ellie, and Abby make their way to an outpost in Seattle that’s occupied by former Fireflies who realize who Joel is, and attack him and Tommy. Once in captivity, Abby beats Joel to death with a golf club in one of the most harrowing moments in modern video game history.
