A person sat at the Pfister Hotel bar in Milwaukee, Wis., and took a sip of their drink. They got alarmed when they felt something scratch the back of their throat.
In a video with over 149,000 views, TikToker KProminence (@kingprominence) grabs their throat as they sit at the bar.
“I’m really concerned,” they exclaim. “I just swallowed glass at Pfister.”
They say they pulled out a “chunk” of glass that came through the straw of the drink and alerted the manager to file an incident report.
“There should not be glass in my cup. And the fact that I felt it scratch my throat, y’all. They’re calling the ER,” they continue.
In the next clip, KProminence sits in the ambulance on their way to the emergency room to be evaluated for consuming glass.
The caption continues, “Who paying that ambulance and hospital bill??? Yall not tryna respond now.”
On-screen text alleges they weren’t ID-ed at the bar, either, sharing concern in the comments that someone “underage” could have consumed the glass.
Should You Go To The ER If There’s Glass In Your Food?
According to Poison Control, the need to head to the ER after finding glass in your food or drink depends on the size and sharpness.
Small enough pieces should pass without harming the throat or digestive tract. If no injury occurs after consuming a tiny piece of glass, Poison Control recommends monitoring for symptoms such as bloody stools, fever, chills, or pain.
However, if someone believes the glass was sharp enough to scratch them or felt a sharp edge while swallowing the piece, it may be a good idea to get checked out by a health professional. In extreme cases, doctors may choose to surgically remove the glass to avoid puncturing delicate organs.
Did The Pfister Hotel Reach Out To The TikToker?
In a follow-up video after the incident, the TikToker says that Pfister has not returned their messages for over a month.
They share that the hospital gave them “two radiation screenings.” KProminence writes, “I’m not fine. I’m still highly upset and have medical bills.”
In the comments, some viewers suggested seeking legal advice.
“Do NOT deal with Pfister directly. They will try to screw you. Get a lawyer ASAP and dont talk to anyone,” one said.
Another wrote, “Girl contact an attorney asap. They usually don’t charge unless you win the case and they will take a percentage of the payoff. They will also deal with insurance.”
The TikToker claimed that the restaurant offered to cover the itemized hospital bill when they initially spoke to management.
They shared in another comment that after posting the viral video of the incident, management reached out via email asking for the bill.
