If you’ve ever worked in the alcoholic beverage service industry, chances are you’ve run into an unusual request or two.
A survey conducted by Alcohol.org found that 81% of bartenders change their opinions about customers based on the drinks they order. A Florida-based beverage golf cart worker called this male golfer’s drink order the “craziest” request she’s ever had on the job. While Fort Lauderdale TikTok creator Cat (@cat.on.the.course) didn’t share what opinion she formed about the man and his personality based on his order, viewers sure did.
What Are The Responsibilities Of A Golf Cart Attendant?
Beverage cart workers have similar responsibilities as most food service workers:
- They handle cash
- Sell food and beverages
- Maintain inventory
- Interact with customers (they just do this while driving around on a golf course)
- At many locations, workers also serve alcohol, thus assuming the role of a bartender.
A ‘Disgusting’ Drink Combo
In her video, Cat, while sitting in a golf cart, recalls a recent interaction she had with a customer.
“I swear this is not rage bait. This guy just asked me if I had a root beer,” she says. Then, she lowers her glasses in shock. “And a Pink Whitney.”
“He claims that it tastes like bubble gum,” she recounts, tilting her head to the side, taken aback.
“The craziest request I’ve gotten as a cart girl,” Cat writes in the overlay text, followed by a puking emoji.
What Do Viewers Think?
The video garnered over 18,000 views, and viewers were just as baffled as Cat.
“If he’s not a white girl in a sorority there’s no right to ask for pink whit,” one viewer remarked.
“I just threw up,” a second stated.
However, many viewers had no clue what a Pink Whitney even was.
“Me not even knowing what a Pink Whitney is,” one commenter wrote.
“What in the name of 3 putt is pink Whitney?” another questioned.
“I [have] no idea what ‘pink whitney’ is…but did you serve him that drink…if it is a drink? Lol,” a third inquired.
Did Cat Serve The Customer The Pink Whitney?
Cat revealed in a comment that she did not give into the customer’s request—but for inventory reasons.
“I did not because we don’t carry root beer or pink whitney… pink whitney is a gross lemonade vodka that college kids drink,” she said in the comments section.
What Is A Pink Whitney?
In 2018, Spittin’ Chiclets hosts and former NHL athletes Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney concocted this alcoholic beverage during one of their podcast episodes. The duo experimented, mixing different drinks. They landed on New Amsterdam Vodka and pink lemonade, and the Pink Whitney was born.
A year later, the podcast hosts partnered with New Amsterdam to officially launch this drink. It became a viral sensation, mainly appealing to millennials of both sexes, according to Mashed.
The drink reportedly has a sweet and citrusy flavor. It seems the golfer wanted to add in root beer, creating his very own bubble gum-esque concoction.
