If you’re ordering food online, there’s no guarantee your order will be prepared exactly how you expect. There’s always room for misunderstanding and mistakes, regardless of how clear you try to note any modifications.
After noticing the lack of double chicken in his burrito bowl from Chipotle, Pittsburgh-based TikTok creator Sam (@sam.pittsburgh) drove down to the location himself to point this out to the staff.
What Did Double Chicken At Chipotle Look Like?
“Chipotle, count your days. I’m gonna show you guys something,” he says, filming himself in his car reaching for his Chipotle burrito bowl from behind the seat. “This is why I never put in an online order at Chipotle, and I always go [in person]. Because anytime that you ask for anything at Chipotle, they think they can skimp you out.”
After he removes the lid, he reveals several angles of the “double chicken” bowl he received: about four pieces of chicken buried under heaping piles of lettuce.
“Do you guys see any double chicken here?” the content creator asks. “I’m gonna remove the lettuce so you guys can see what they consider to be a double chicken.”
A Journey To Chipotle
As he scrapes the lettuce off with a fork, Sam recalls how he decided to take matters into his own hands. “I go there in person and tell [the manager], ‘Hey, I ordered double chicken’ and showed them the bowl,’” he recounts. “That’s maybe a very weak scoop of chicken.”
According to the restaurant’s website, one scoop of protein is 4 ounces, making a double 8 ounces.
“‘I look the manager dead in the face, ‘This doesn’t look like double chicken,'” Sam says, continuing the story. “’When I come here in person, and you put double chicken in my bowl, the whole bowl gets filled with chicken. Where’s the chicken here?’”
However, the content creator says the manager insisted there was double chicken. “‘It’s under the lettuce,'” he says the manager told him.
Before leaving, he says he requested the tortilla he forgot to order, which he feels backfired.
“They had the audacity to charge me 50 cents for a side of tortilla,” he shares.
“You really need that 50 cents after you just skimped me out of $3.30 of chicken? Pittsburgh Chipotle, do better,” he concludes angrily.
Viewers Side With Sam
Many in the comments section were outraged on behalf of Sam.
“WHY DO THEY ACT LIKE IT COMES OUT OF THEIR OWN PAYCHECK,” one viewer remarked.
“I’ve literally stopped going after YEARS of this. Over it,” another commented.
“My husband won’t tell them double until after they put the first scoop on cause they skimp on the scoop sizes if you say double. It’s weird,” a third stated.
Moreover, others suggested how to ensure they actually get double chicken when they request it.
“Next time just do what I did! go through the line, order the bowl, and show the difference at the counter. Walk away w the new one,” one commenter shared.
Even an alleged Chipotle manager offered a piece of advice. “I’m crying they played with you but i recommend never ordering online [past] like 9:30pm tbh- chipotle manager,” they revealed.
@sam.pittsburgh @Chipotle do better yall really don’t care.
How To Score Double Protein
For several years, the fast-casual chain has faced accusations of portion-skimping. Their response to these claims has been a bit contradictory. Initially, Chipotle outright denied the accusations. Then, in 2024, then-CEO Brian Niccol told Forbes that, yes, a small percentage of locations were skimping on portion sizes—but due to a lack of proper training. However, Niccol ended up creating not only more confusion but also something of a meme by revealing how to successfully get larger portion sizes. All it required, according to Niccol, was customers nodding their heads in a knowing way at the portions they wanted more of. He said workers would get the hint and hook it up.
Ironically, this may actually work, but only because of the viral video. One customer jokingly put this to the test at his local Chipotle, and it worked. The employee was well aware of the infamous clip.
Another tried-and-true trick is to request a single scoop of protein and allow the employee to add it. But then, “change your mind” and ask for double. The idea is that the worker showed their hand with their first scoop, and they now have to match it in size with the second one.
