Pokémon Go features millions of landmarks around the world that have been designated as PokéStops where players can get supplies. That includes one that was recently removed from Little Saint James, the infamous private island that was formerly owned by Jeffrey Epstein.

It’s been close to a decade since Pokémon Go took the world by storm by giving anyone with a smartphone the chance to step into the shoes of a trainer with the augmented reality game where players are tasked with roaming around in a quest to catch ’em all.

Those collectible creatures pop up on a map that also features gyms where they can battle and PokéStops that dole out essential supplies including PokéBalls, potions, and eggs that can be hatched after you log enough steps.

Those locations are usually tied to a notable landmark, and some of them have managed to generate some controversy, including PokéStops that were located at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., Arlington National Cemetery, and the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero in New York City.

A number of resupply centers in inappropriate places have been removed from the game, and that’s now the case with the one that was located on the island that was once owned by Jeffrey Epstein.

The United States Virgin Islands are comprised of around 50 land masses located in the Caribbean Sea. That includes Little Saint James, the approximately 70-acre islet that is commonly referred to as “Epstein Island” due to the man who formerly owned it.

If you’re somehow not aware, the Epstein in question is Jeffrey Epstein, who died under suspicious circumstances in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. There are plenty of allegations concerning the parties he routinely hosted on the island, which is believed to have been the site of crimes perpetrated against the underage girls at the center of the ongoing saga involving the financier and his many notable associates.

According to Kotaku, it was also the site of a PokéStop that was discovered after someone on Reddit asked if the island was home to one before people who were able to spoof their location confirmed there was a supply station associated with a large sundial.

Anyone can nominate a location for a potential PokéStop, and it appears this one slipped through the cracks after someone submitted it on Ingress (the spiritual predecessor to Pokémon Go) at some point between 2020 and 2021 (that means it was added after Epstein died, although he did mention the game in an email to a Qatari sheik shortly after its release in 2016).

It’s unclear if anyone actually visited it in real life, but you will no longer be able to after Pokémon Go developer Niantic confirmed it has been removed after it was brought to its attention.
