Whether or not a Loch Ness Monster sighting is deemed “official” these days has become a bit confusing. The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register used to be the go-to for whether a sighting of the legendary cryptid was “legit” or not. These days, however, webcams placed around the loch and other websites that chronicle these and other sightings of the Loch Ness Monster have muddied the waters, so to speak.
The two most recent Loch Ness Monster sightings are a good example of this. The first, which was recorded on the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, occurred when a long time local resident who had lived by the loch for 30 years filed a report claiming they saw something that they “had never seen anything” like before.
The Register reported that the resident was able to take a two-minute video of something just under the water near Lochend in calm clear conditions at 9:15 a.m. on August 29. The site only shared a still from the video, but it was enough for them to deem it the third “official” sighting of the Loch Ness Monster in 2025.
Second Loch Ness Monster sighting in the same day
Meanwhile, also on the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, a report filed by prolific Nessie watcher Eoin O’Faodhagain revealed that too saw what could have been the creature at 7:49 p.m. on August 29. His sighting, however, came from the Visit Inverness Loch Ness Clansman webcam. Therefore, as has happened numerous times before, it was deemed to be an “unofficial” Loch Ness Monster sighting. Also, once again, only a still from the video was shared, but thankfully O’Faodhagain did share what he saw on his YouTube channel.
“I first noticed a large disturbance in the water on the right hand side of the screen, more than halfway across the loch. Then two humps partially emerged from the water, then submerged, then a large single hump appeared, then the webcam rotated,” he told The Inverness Courier.
“When it maneuvered back to the sighting area of the loch, two humps reappeared higher out of the water than earlier, and in a different direction, showing that this object is alive and moving, then they submerged and that was the end of the sighting. There were no boats on the loch at the time of the sighting or just prior to the sighting.”
These two Loch Ness Monster sightings are at least the eighth and ninth that have been reported in the media in 2025. Whether they were all official or not these days is quickly becoming irrelevant.
