Russell Dickerson might be the most versatile vocalist in country music right now. Not only is he a multi-platinum chart-topper, he can transform his voice to sound like Fetty Wap or go full pop-punk.
Consider this my formal request for the latter!
As a current resident of Nashville, I will be in attendance at all four nights of CMA Fest in June. The true country music purists are going to hate me for this but I would love nothing more than to rock out to ‘Red Dirt Road’ at Nissan Stadium like it is the Vans Warped Tour in the early 2000s. Let’s make it happen!
Who is Russell Dickerson?
You are probably familiar with Russell Dickerson already if you are reading this article— so you can skip ahead to the next subheading. If you are not already familiar, it is my distinct honor to introduce you!
He is so much fun.
Dickerson burst onto the country music scene in 2015 with his debut single ‘Yours.’ It landed him a record deal with Triple Tigers Records and really put him on the map.
‘Blue Tacoma’ also topped the charts from the same album.
‘Love You Like I Used To’ was his next big single in 2020.
His most recent smash hit, ‘Happen To Me,’ became an international sensation. Not only is it a banger summer anthem that taps into the nostalgia of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,’ the corresponding dance went extremely viral on TikTok. Even the BYU cheer team and Cosmo the Cougar got in on the trend!
Dickerson knows how to have a good time. I have only seen him perform live one time with my good friend Breland, but he had the entire crowd up out of its seat to shake some…….
The 38-year-old recently stepped outside of the country realm to celebrate Fetty Wap’s release from prison. His ‘1738’ impression is spot-on.
If you close your eyes, you can’t even tell a difference.
You get the idea. Russell Dickerson can transform his voice to sound like a variety of different artists from all kind of genres and he’s always going to let it rip.
However, his latest vocal impression is more than just a fun party trick.

Like I said, I am going to see Russell Dickerson perform a full set for the first time at CMA Fest in June. I would like to issue a formal request for a pop-punk cover of ‘Red Dirt Road’ by Brooks & Dunn.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Dickerson recently posted a mic’d up video from one of his sound checks with a preview of what that might sound like. It rocks, literally.
I have been walking around my house for the last few days singing this exact version of ‘Red Dirt Road.’ Imagine what it would sound like with a full band, in front of a crowd of 70,000 at Nissan Stadium.
I want so badly to jam out at CMA Fest to a song by one of the greatest country music duos of all-time like I am listening to Blink-182 in my Dickies jeans, Von Dutch hat and Vans with a wallet chain. Take me back to the early 2000s.
The (even older) old heads in the crowd may not love it but who cares. This isn’t about them!
