Russia’s ‘Sexiest Poker Player’ And Popular Twitch Streamer Died After Tragic Bathroom Accident

Liliya Novikova was a successful poker player and popular Twitch streamer, but sadly she died from a tragic accident in her bathroom. The 26-year-old was said to have been electrocuted at her Moscow apartment, which led to her untimely death.

Liliya Novikova was an incredibly intelligent math student and earned a degree from a top Russian university. Instead of going into engineering, she used her math abilities to launch a career playing poker.

She was becoming a star of online poker and her fans knew her as “Lia.” She was named Russia’s “sexiest poker player” and had a devout following on Instagram.

Besides gambling, she branched out to competitive gaming and created a successful Twitch channel with nearly 25,000 followers under the handle of “Liay5.”

Sadly, Liliya’s dead body was found on the floor of the bathroom of her Moscow apartment earlier this week. Early reports suggest that a massive electrical shock accidentally killed the promising young woman or contributed to her death.

When Liliya’s parents couldn’t contact her, they asked a neighbor to check on their daughter. That’s when Liliya was found dead. Russian investigators found Liliya’s phone charging in the bathroom as well as a hairdryer. Novikova died while taking a bath or shower.

The Russian Investigative Committee said: “During the first checks of young woman’s dead body, signs of electric shock trauma were registered.” There are reports that she may have banged her head as a result of the electrical shock.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of her death. As of now, the death is believed to be a freak accident and not a suicide.

Novikova’s death was announced on her official VK website, which is a Russian social media platform. “Leah passed away. Yesterday. Accident. She is no more. She left us,” the translated post read.

Liliya had a contract with PokerStars, she had her own poker channel and taught masterclasses. The official Twitter account for the online casino said: “Our condolences to the family and friends of Liliya ‘Liay5’ Novikova, who tragically passed away earlier this week. Poker has lost a bright star who will be missed greatly. RIP.”

Fans of Novikov shared their condolences online over the death of the gaming and poker influencer.

In addition to playing poker and being a Twitch streamer, Novikova also enjoyed cycling, archery, snowboarding, rowing and boxing.
