Salt Lake City Gate Agent Has An Extra First-Class Seat. Then She Makes Passengers Break Dance For It

It’s no secret that people will do a lot of things to be more comfortable on an airplane. Recently, one Salt Lake City gate agent decided to make her day a little more interesting. She decided to make those travelers who wanted the upgrade to first class dance for the seat.

The kicker? They absolutely did.

In a TikTok with over 290,600 views, Nat (@nati) requests volunteers for the seat. “I’m in need of two passengers to be seated in first class,” the Delta agent says.

Then there’s the briefest of pauses. And if you look closely, in the video, her eyes seem to crinkle into a little smile as she asks, “Anyone willing to do a little break dance to be seated in first class? Anyone?”

Come On Up And Get Down

In these days of declining seat pitch (legroom), is it any wonder two travelers walked up to give it their best shot? What they do is not exactly poppin’ and lockin’ or headspins and freezes. But the moves attempted do bear a passing resemblance to breakdancing until one participant segues into what looks like Russian folk dancing.

As the two hopefuls perform, their fellow passengers giggle. And at the end of the very short competition, they’re greeted with clapping and cheers. And the entire vibe of the gate is changed—for the sillier.

Then the video cuts, and the gate agent says, “My breakdance winners.” Presumably they get to recline their sore muscles in Delta Air Lines First Class seats.

Dance ‘Til You Drop

A cynical observer might say that literally dancing for slightly better accommodations gives “Let them eat cake vibes,” but everyone in the comments section seems to take it with good humor—and a willingness to bust their own moves.

“I’m the shyest person alive and I would do this in a heartbeat lol,” says Mama (@crunchymccarter).

While Victoria (@checkvicout) says she’s “Manifesting this becomes an option on my next flight [crying emoji x 3].

Meanwhile, another user attributes the good times to Delta’s corporate culture, writing, ‘This is why I only fly Delta,” says Leo Izzara (@leoizzara).

Why Are Free Upgrades So Rare These Days?

Once upon a time, free upgrades were a semi-regular thing. A little research confirms it: In the not-so-distant past, there were often free upgrades for the frequent flyers (and charming) among us. More recently, airlines have killed these formerly cornerstone perks.

The reason? Profit margins. Now, those comfy seats and premium service go to anyone who is willing to pay for the upgrade. Better for corporate bottom lines, certainly. However, at a cost, some say, that is harder to quantify: customer loyalty.

Loyalty Is As Loyalty Does

Matthew Klint, writing for Live and Let Fly, says, “If airlines want loyalty to mean something again, they should consider discounted, transparent buy-ups to first class that would incentivize return business and discourage shopping around.”

Until then, the flying public will just need to hope for more gate agents like Nat. Who proves, as she says in her caption, that she’s “Not ur typical gate agent, im a fun gate agent.”

BroBible reached out to Nat via email and TikTok direct message. We also reached out to Delta Air Lines via their media portal. We will update this if either respond.
