Saturday Night Live paid tribute to late writer, actor, director and producer Rob Reiner during its Saturday, December 20 episode — the first SNL episode to air following the grizzly murder of him and his wife at the hands of their son Nick.
During the December 20 episode, which was hosted by Ariana Grande alongside musical guest Cher, a tribute card with a throwback picture of Rob Reiner appeared just before the show’s goodnights segment, which Saturday Night Live also shared on social media.

Reiner, 78 years old, and his wife Michele Singer, 70, were found slain in their Brentford, Los Angeles Home on Sunday, December 14 — just hours after attending Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party alongside their son Nick, who has been charged with two counts of first degree homicide.
During his decades long career in Hollywood, Reiner worked as a actor (most famously as Meathead in All in the Family), writer, producer, and director, helming beloved films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men, and When Harry Met Sally.
According to recent reports, Nick’s behavior had become increasingly concerning to the rest of his family, with his sister Romy reportedly not liking the idea of him living in their parents’ guesthouse.
“This is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family. We all recognize that,” Nick Reiner’s attorney Alan Jackson said following his first court apperance last week.
“There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed. We ask that during this process you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward — not with a rush to judgment, not with jumping to conclusions.”
Reiner’ charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty with no possibility of parole.
