Seth Rogen has responded to James Franco saying the pair are no longer friends. Franco crashed out of Hollywood and hasn’t appeared in a major Hollywood production since 2018 due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

In an interview last year, James Franco — whose last major Hollywood production was the Coen Brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in 2018 — told Variety that their friendship is effectively over.

Rogen and Franco broke into the business on the NBC series Freaks and Geeks and would go on to star in the films Pineapple Express, This Is The End, The Interview, Sausage Party and The Disaster Artist together.

“No. I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me,” Franco said in 2024.

Speaking to Esquire Magazine to promote his new AppleTV+ series The Studio, Seth Rogen briefly responded to Franco’s comments about their friendship.

“How did it feel to have something so personal become so public? He’s clearly not surprised to get the question, and he’s just as clearly not happy about it. ‘Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar.’ And that is all he wants to say about that.” [via Esquire]

Check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Studio, via AppleTV+, below. The Studio will premiere on AppleTV+ on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and will run through May 21.

“In The Studio, Rogen stars as the newly appointed head of a movie studio, Continental Studios. Desperate for the approval of celebrities, he and his team of executives at Continental Studios must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies alive and relevant.”

Alongside Rogen, The Studio is also set to star Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Dewayne Perkins.
