Most people who visit an amusement park are looking for an excuse to get their heart pumping and the adrenaline flowing, but some patrons who recently stopped by Six Flags Mexico got much more than they bargained for after getting stuck on a ride during a fierce thunderstorm.

Amusement parks have mastered the art of offering visitors the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone with rides that allow them to subject their bodies to exhilarating speeds, brain-bending g-forces, and anxiety-inducing heights in a controlled environment.

Those attractions are obviously engineered with safety in mind, but as is the case with most things in life, there’s only so much you can do to ensure everything goes smoothly 100% of the time.

That brings us to what unfolded at the Six Flags located outside of Mexico City last week, as visitors who headed to the amusement park on August 18th found themselves dealing with a torrential downpour that suddenly descended upon the grounds.

The storm forced the park to shut down a number of rides—including the Supergirl Sky Flight (a.k.a. the SkyScreamer), a massive tower equipped with swings that transport riders close to 250 feet above the park.

According to UPI, a group of people had already climbed aboard the ride before the rain and wind picked up, and one man pulled out his phone to capture the pretty terrifying ordeal he and his fellow passengers were subjected to after spending 10 minutes stuck dangling in the air as the storm raged around them.

Six Flags Mexico issued a statement addressing the situation, saying employees followed the proper protocols after being confronted with the bad weather and noting no one was physically harmed despite the “uncomfortable moments” the situation caused.

I think it’s safe to assume some of the people who were stuck experienced a little bit of psychological damage, but at least things mostly worked out in the end.
