The first official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released and Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are decrying how literally ugly the trailer looks. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a direct sequel to 2021’s multiverse-spanning Spider-Man: Far From Home and is set four years after the events of that film.
Check out the official synopsis and trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day below and then we’ll dig into the reactions afterwards.
The official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released but most Marvel fans are less than thrilled with it
“Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”
The reactions from fans, however, has been less than thrilled, with many bemoaning the actual aesthetic of the trailer.
genuinely cannot BELIEVE how badly they’re screwing up this reveal. worst trailer marketing i’ve seen in forever https://t.co/uQMBNZ4WUy

This cgi is worse that what people were saying about Superman’s last year but I’m gonna have to watch people glaze it just because it’s Spider-Man. I’m dead serious man just delay it. What even is this. https://t.co/tloonz2gxg pic.twitter.com/33Tpt0xR8c

One of the major and most comment complaints seems to be the quality of the CGI, which has become commonplace with Marvel Cinematic Universe films since the start of the decade.
They should fix the CGI within the next four months because these shots look horrible 😭 https://t.co/jPQFkJ7RkU pic.twitter.com/EhOMOkHfJw

Unfortunately for Marvel fans, however, this sort of shoddy CGI work has been synonymous with the franchise for a few years now, particularly since the release of 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. There was also an expose published in The New Yorker in 2022 that detailed the working conditions of Marvel’s computer graphics vendor and painted the process as rushed and overwhelming.
In addition to stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also star Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III.
