Marve/Sony
Growing up, when it came to my video game system of choice, I was always an Xbox kid. The choice was simple, really: Xbox had Halo and PlayStation didn’t.
Then college rolled around, and while I stilled games on occasion — FIFA and Madden and Smash Bros with the boys, of course — I wasn’t like, you know, gamin’ gaming.
So, after I graduated, now that I had a little more time and money on my hands, it was time to cop myself a new system, and I ultimately went with PlayStation for a similar reason I chose Xbox way back when: it had exclusive rights to a game. And that game was Spider-Man.
Essentially a Spider-Man simulator, PS4’s Spider-Man — which was released in 2018 — is as close as a living human can come to being a superhero.
Now a few years removed from the release of the original, it looks like the studio behind the game, Insomniac, is ramping up for a sequel, as recent rumors indicate that the game is in development and will feature the likes of Venom, Carnage, and Mysterio.
More rumors have surfaced online concerning Insomniac’s next Spider-Man adventure. This batch comes from Reddit’s GamingLeaksAndRumours portal, its post authored by a throwaway account cleverly named Utopianthrowaway90. The account’s claims, which presently remain unsubstantiated, allege a Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel will launch in late 2021 on PlayStation 5. Furthermore, the rumor suggests a host of new characters are on the cards, such as Venom, Carnage, and Mysterio. [via Reddit]
While a sequel game has yet to be confirmed, the storyline of the original game makes it clear that a sequel is bound to happen sooner rather than later.
