Academy Award nominee Sterling K. Brown — nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in American Fiction last year — plays one of the supporting characters in Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix film Atlas and has therefore been on the promotional trail with her over the last few weeks.

One of their interviews is going particularly viral, however, as Brown seems to become exasperated with Jennifer Lopez’s whole “I’m Puerto Rican” thing — which earned her some criticism earlier this year when she detailed her go-to bodega order.

Speaking to Unilad about their favorite comfort foods, Lopez again drew attention to her Puerto Rican heritage, which led to Brown mocking her right to her face.

“Go-to comfort meal? It could be any — well, I grew up, I’m Puerto Rican. So I like rice and beans…” Lopez said, prompting Brown to snidely say: “Are you Puerto Rican? Get out of here. Arroz, frijoles, a me gusta French toast.”

“Sterling K. Brown is all of us. Girl we know you’re Puerto Rican from the Bronx,” said one Twitter user.

Sterling K. Brown with Jennifer Lopez, is an example of when you finally meet someone who you think you’d like to work with or admire them from afar, only to actually be around them and discover that you made a terrible mistake but the pay was worth it. Sterling will never work with her again,” summarized another in a viral tweet.

It’s been a tough year for Lopez as she’s been dealing with both personal and professional setbacks.

Earlier this year, her new album This Is Me… Now and the accompanying fever dream of a movie were released to such little fanfare that Lopez was forced to cancel a bevy of tour dates due to low ticket sales.

Atlas, despite largely being mocked for looking like it was made with A.I. and having an abysmal 19% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, has (allegedly) been the #1 movie in the world on Netflix since its release.

Then came the well-reported personal issues, as all signs point to her and her husband Ben Affleck getting divorced after just two years of marriage.

Lopez and Brown can be seen starring in Atlas alongside Simu Liu and Mark Strong, which is now streaming on Netflix.
