The first official trailer for Superman, directed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, has been released. Superman will be the first official live-action film in the DCU, Warner Bros. attempted reboot of their DC brand.

Superman will star relative unknown David Corenswet in the lead role of Clark Kent/Superman. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star and Emmy award winner Rachel Brosnahan will feature as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult stars as Lex Luthor.

Check out the official trailer for Superman, which will be released in movie theaters on July 11, 2025 and will be the first movie in the new DCU franchise, below.

According to James Gunn, Superman will not be an origin story as he has existed long enough in this world that Lex Luthor already hates him. Gunn said the film starts “in the middle of the action”.

Alongside Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hount, Superman will also star Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Terence Rosemore, Wendell Pierce, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and more.

Prior to Superman, Corenswet was known for his roles in films such as Pearl and Twisters, and TV shows such as House of Cards, The Politician, We Own This City, and Lady in the Lake.

Warner Bros. is trying to reboot its DC properties on the big screen following the largely disastrous decade of the DCEU (which began with Man of Steel and ended with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom).

Other projects in the works as DC Studios, which Gunn oversees as co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, are Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (due out June 2026), Clayface (September 2026), The Authority, The Brave and the Bold (a Batman movie), and Swmap Thing.

There’s also a Dick Grayson/Tim Drake animated Robin movie in the works, in addition to rumors of a Teen Titans film, a Bane and Deathstroke film, and Sgt. Rock movie from Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig.
