The first official look at actress Sydney Sweeney as Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic about the boxer’s career has been released. In addition to starring in the project, Sweeney is also on board as a producer, something she’s been doing with increasing frequency in recent years.
In addition to the first official look at Sydney Sweeney as Christy Martin — the photo is an action shot of her in the ring — it was also confirmed that the movie will be premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

“My body was completely different. I loved it. I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour,” Sweeney told W Magazine earlier this year while promoting Echo Valley.
Earlier this year, Sweeney revealed that she gained over 30 pounds to play Martin, with much of it going to her chest and her behind.
“I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my God. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”
In addition to Sweeney, the still-untitled Christy Martin biopic also stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman, and Tony Cavalero.
The movie is directed by Australian filmmaker David Michôd, who has also directed the movies War Machine and The King, both of which are Netflix originals.
If Sweeney can stick the landing on this movie, it’ll undoubtedly elevate her to another level of stardom as it’ll not only show that she can take on physical roles but also can put forth a performance that has zero reliance on her status as a sex symbol.
Sweeney will next be seen starring in the movies Americana and Eden, both of which will be released in theaters on Friday, August 22.
