Sydney Sweeney Elaborates On Her Politics With Remarkable Nothing Burger Of An Answer

To promote her new lingerie brand Syrn, actress and influencer Sydney Sweeney sat down for a feature interview with Cosmopolitan. During the interview, she was asked about her politics, which came to the forefront this year following her American Eagle ad campaign.

Despite the fact that it’s already been confirmed that Sydney Sweeney registered as a Republican voter in Florida just a few months before Donald Trump’s second election, the 28-year-old attempted to remain vague about it when asked during the interview.

Her lingerie brand, by the way, is financially backed by Jeff Bezos, who also just footed the bill for the cataclysmically bombing documentary Melania. Just a political coincidence, surely.

Sydney Sweeney says she’ll never reveal her politics because she’s “in the arts”

“No. I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts,” Sweeney said when asked by Cosmopolitan if there ‘is a future in which people will get to see what she politically believes.’

“I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into. It’s not why I became who I am. I became an actor because I like to tell stories, but I don’t believe in hate in any form. I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another.”

The one aspect of Sweeney’s response that has been particularly criticized is her suggestion that art and politics can be separated, as many people consider the two to be symbiotic. Meanwhile, others are arguing they’d have more respect for her if she just owned up to her beliefs.

The launch of Sweeney’s lingerie brand has been interesting, to say the least, as it’s sparked a debate about who her fanbase actually is.

While hosting Saturday Night Live last year, Sweeney joked in a promo that most of her fans are men. Those men, however — while they likely make up a majority of her 26 million Instagram followers — apparently weren’t interested in seeing her play boxer Christy Martin, as that film only sold approximately 180,000 tickets.

Her latest film The Housemaid, however — very much a women-focused film — has become the highest-grossing movie of her career. But are the women who are buying tickets to see The Housemaid also the type to buy her lingerie? Doubtful.

For now, while she tries to maintain the illusion that she’s an actress and not a celebrity/influencer, she’ll try to remain apolitical. But if her box office numbers struggle, you can be sure we’ll see a lot more bras and political takes in the future.
