During a recent interview, Sydney Sweeney expressed interest in starring in a movie alongside Margot Robbie. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that movie would be a sequel to Robbie’s mega-hit Barbie, which she also produced in addition to starring in.

Barbie, famously released on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in 2023, is one of the most successful films of the decade as it grossed over $1.4 billion at the global box office and was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

While speaking with Bustle, Sweeney said that while she’d obviously need to see the script, she’s a huge fan of the Oscar-nominated Robbie and would certainly consider starring alongside her in a sequel.

“I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot [Robbie], so I would not be opposed to it,” Sweeney recently said in an interview with Bustle.

Let’s imagine a world where a Barbie sequel with Sydney Sweeney did come to fruition: it’s pretty easy to see what the plot line could be. Sweeney could be introduced as a newer, younger, and, uh, shapelier model of Barbie, making Margot Robbie’s version of Barbie once again have an identity crisis.

Both Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, however, have distanced themselves from the idea of a sequel. That said, Barbie grossed nearly $1.5 billion at the box office, meaning Warner Bros. is undoubtedly kicking around ideas on how to make a follow-up, either with or without Robbie.

Next up for Sweeney will be a pair of movies that both his theaters on August 22: Americana and Eden. Eden has generated particular buzz as it’s a Ron Howard-directed film that also features Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Jude Law and Daniel Bruhl.

Later this year, Sweeney will also star in an adaptation of the best-selling thriller The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, which will be released in theaters on Christmas day.
