A woman took her niece to Texas Roadhouse and ordered the Andy’s Steak from the Rangers Meals kids’ menu. However, they both raise eyebrows at the steak’s texture after cutting into it.
In her video, TikToker Thatonebish (@gypsybish33) cuts strips off of the Andy’s Steak, which the chain advertises as a small sirloin. However, the texture resembles ground beef.
On-screen text reads, “Did Texas Roadhouse switch the Andy’s steak on the kids’ menu? It’s supposed to be a sirloin, but it looks mixed with hamburger meat or something.”
In the caption, the TikToker notes that her niece frequently orders the same meal at Texas Roadhouse and quickly noticed the change.
“My niece definitely said it tastes different. She eats that steak about 2 times a month for years, so just wondering,” she writes.
The TikTok garnered over two million views and 47,000 likes.
What Is Andy’s Steak Supposed To Look Like?
Texas Roadhouse’s Andy’s Steak is a 6-ounce sirloin served with a choice of sides like steak fries, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, or green beans. Customers can remove the steak seasoning and order it at the temperature they prefer.
The small meal is only $12 and 250 calories total. It’s a popular choice for kids and for adult customers who opt for smaller portions at the restaurant chain.
Other TikTokers who share their own Andy’s Steak orders show an evenly textured, standard sirloin as they cut into it—not a grainy, ground-beef texture. So, the TikToker’s disappointing steak may be a one-off rather than a change to the meal across the board.
What Happened To Her Texas Roadhouse Steak?
In the comments, viewers share their theories on why the TikToker’s Andy’s Steak looks so different from others shown online.
“Cheap cuts melded with meat glue. We used to have them at a high end restaurant for kids steaks,” one suggested. The TikToker replied, “Well previously it looked like a steak and tasted like a steak. this time she could not eat it it was so chewy.”
Another said, “Ever since the CEO founder passed away, it’s gone downhill. I used to go once a week at least I haven’t been there in at least six months. The quality is horrible.”
Some said they’ve received similarly questionable cuts of meat during their recent trips to Texas Roadhouse.
A viewer wrote, “The last few steaks (med rare ribeyes)I’ve gotten at TR have been so tough that I got tired of chewing before I got full. Also not cooked correctly. I sent a couple back, but after the third, we just stopped going.”
“The recent Texas roadhouse I noticed my steak wasn’t steaking and had ground beef texture,” a second shared.
“Just had a sirloin last week and it was terrible,” a third remarked.
Other Texas Roadhouse workers suggested how customers can remedy the situation if they receive a subpar steak.
“Roadhouse employee for 11 years. It is a sirloin, your chopped steak would come shaped as a hamburger patty,” a commenter wrote. “Some cuts don’t cook as good as others, which is no one’s fault. If you let them know they’ll 100% make you a new steak.”
The TikToker said the waiter offered to take the steak back and bring a new one.
“They did offer to cook another one. My niece just didn’t want one lol. Waitress was super nice but when I asked the waitress if the meat was different or something she couldn’t tell me anything about it,” she replied.
UPDATE: In an email to BroBible, a Texas Roadhouse spokesperson shares the reason for the steak’s odd texture.
“Our meat cutters hand-cut steaks every day in our restaurants so guests receive high-quality fresh product. It appears this steak is over-tenderized, resulting in the soft texture shown. We remain committed to delivering Legendary Food to our guests,” they write.
