It seems like everyone has that one friend. The one who arrives late, orders recklessly, and figures that the bill—when it finally comes—will magically sort itself out.
For one group of Texas friends, Nurse Sierra (@iamnursesierra) is that friend. And when the bill came due for a recent meal, Sierra took her shock to TikTok, and 8.3 million viewers laughed as she cried.
I’ll Have The Tomahawk
A tomahawk steak is one of those cuts of meat that’s about as big as Texas itself. With a rib bone extending about 12 inches past the steak, it looks like something you can use to regulate the table with, right before it regulates your appetite.
When Sierra and her friends arrived at the steakhouse, they had about six minutes before the kitchen closed. She says she didn’t even look at a menu, instead, blurting out, “Can I get a tomahawk steak?”
Yes. Yes she could.
“It’s a big steak,” she says through tears. “It was so good.”
‘It Was So Good’
Sierra says that with the time crunch on, the tomahawk was “the first thing that came to her head.”
She proceeded to enjoy every bite of it.
But when the check arrived at the table, the tears started flowing. Watching the video, it doesn’t seem like she’s crying, crying. It’s more like she’s laughing so hard the tears come. After all, she does have in-camera text that says, “POV: You order the $145 steak and no one knew [grinning emoji].”
Then she takes pains to clarify the price: “How much is it, $148, right? $145, OK.”
‘I’m Sorry, It Was So Good’
At the very beginning of the TikTok, Sierra’s face appears in the frame, she’s saying, “I’m sorry. I wanted it so bad.” Her $150 worth of laugh-crying tears mirrors the vibe in the comments section.
“All I heard is u saved $3 when u thought it was $148 but it was only $145,” Erick Umana (@erickumana_25) said.
While TikToker @sojuju330 addressed the elephant in the room: “As long as u not talking about splitting the bill.”
Others praised the entire story arc, with one saying, “The sweating, the crying, the cinematic master perfection.”
So What’s The Plan When Your Eyes Exceed Your Wallet?
Sierra was clearly laughing at her own costly mistake. But what if she couldn’t pay for her meal? Well, she probably wouldn’t find herself in the back, washing dishes. The FDA has a rule against people unnecessary to the operation in the kitchen.
Considering she was with friends, they probably would’ve covered her—and then roasted her for the rest of her life. But what if all her options were exhausted, and she didn’t have the money?
Your next best bet is to swallow your pride, ask for the manager, and explain that you’re just a widdle baby. Actually offer to make it right and work toward a reasonable solution. That might mean leaving your phone as collateral and getting some cash, or it might mean calling someone for a “lifeline.” But if you can figure out how to order at a restaurant, you can probably figure out how to pay for a meal.
The absolute worst thing that might happen would be getting charged with “petty theft.” Chances are, though, you’d just be banned for life. No more tomahawks you can’t pay for.
