Not all push notifications on your phone are made equal. Some are chaotic. Some are plain bad. But as a Disco Biscuits fan, this push notifications from nugs.net is about as good as it gets:
The Disco Biscuits just released a remastered version of an epic 1997 show at The Wetlands, an iconic and beloved music venue in Lower Manhattan in the late ’90s. You can now listen to the legendary show, from January 30th, 1997, in all its remastered glory via nugs.net.
25 years later, this show is notable because it’s one of the first recorded Disco Biscuits shows in circulation amongst fans. In addition to being a famous first, it’s cherished by fans for being an absolute scorcher of a show, highlighting the Biscuits stepping into their own as an improvisational action.
One of the first shows we played where when listening back I was certain that we were on to something special. Some of you were in pre-school but we were rocking the most legendary nyc club venue of the era. Wetlands aka jamband CBGBs https://t.co/4PWnoM03RB

This show is one long set. It’s a real treat for long-time fans of the band to hear where the music started out. Some commentary from a fan via Archive.org:
The sheer creativity of the setlist is enough to merit a 5-star for this era: the palindromic morph-ac2b-nug, the second ever Shem-Rah Boo (and the first ever Shem-DttB, a future staple of the 97-99 era), and, to my knowledge, the first ever modern complete Basis ending. Listening to versions of Basis from 95-96, the song was a whole lot less epic before they worked out this ending.
This show also marks the first tripartite division of Basis, which had only been divided at all once, in 1995. Do not discount the Basis -> Barfly segment; Marc’s beatboxing and funky bass lines make this segment golden. The MLS -> Waltz -> reimagined Basis ending is as noodly as it gets, in the best way possible. And the B&C encore is definitely worth checking out for the earliest use of Magner’s blaring sirens.
Five deserved stars, for playing, setlist and recording. If you’re a Biscuits fan and you don’t have this tape, get it now.
It’s a masterpiece. Don’t miss it.
