Reports have been indicating that the first extended look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will be attached to the release of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which will be released in movie theaters on December 19.

The teaser trailer for The Odyssey, according to reports, will actually just be 6-minutes of footage for the film, and will show off the siege of Troy and a shot of the mythic Cyclops.

Director Christopher Nolan isn’t relying on CGI technology, either, as star Matt Damon told Empire Magazine that much of the film’s grandest effects were done practically.

“If you’re going to have an existential crisis as you pass the Sirens and you’re lashed to a mast, it’s there,” Damon said. “If it says you’re running for your life from a Cyclops, you’re going to run for your life. Chris doesn’t hide the ball.”

“We got the cast who play the crew of Odysseus’ ship out there on the real waves, in the real places,” Nolan himself added.

The upcoming preview for The Odyssey will just be six minutes of footage and will show the siege of Troy and the Cyclops

In addition to Damon in the lead role of Odysseus alongside, The Odyssey also stars Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Circe, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, Lupita Nyong’o as Clytemnestra, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, and Mia Goth as Melantho.

Additional cast members also included Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Corey Hawkins, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, Josh Stewart, Ryan Hurst, Anthony Molinari, and Logan Marshall-Green.

The Odyssey, Nolan’s first film since winning multiple Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture, for 2023’s Oppenheimer, will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
