I Am Ready For This New Stephen King/Jason Bateman Murder Mystery On HBO To Melt My Face Clean Off

Do you know what I’m a huge fan of? Shady, scummy, and therefore usually bearded Jason Bateman.

Every time Bateman — who is usually typecast as the straight-and-narrow, Lexus-driving, stock-investing middle-aged white dude — plays against type as a shady asshole, it’s usually a success, the primary examples being Ozarks (obviously) and the low-key thriller film from a couple years back The Gift.

HBO seems to agree, as it appears they’ve cast Bateman in exactly that type of role in The Outsider, the new murder-horror-mystery mini-series that’s hitting the TV giant in January.

Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, “The Outsider” begins by following an investigation which at first seems like it will be simple and straightforward but things change as it leads into the gruesome murder of a young boy by a seasoned cop. When an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads the investigators to question everything they believe in. The character of Holly Gibney from “Mr. Mercedes” is a major character in this series.

In addition to Bateman, The Outsider stars the always fantastic Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One, The Place Beyond The Pines, Captain Marvel) in the lead role, in addition to Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vazquez, Jeremy Bobb, Marc Menchaca, Frank Deal, and Dayna Beilenson.

The Outsider — which looks like it’s going to be everything that True Detective is supposed to be — will premiere on HBO on Sunday, January 12 at 9 p.m. EST. The mini-series will consist of ten episodes.
