NBC Drops The Full 20-Minute Version Of ‘Threat Level Midnight’ Out Of Nowhere

NBC

You know how there are random events in your life that make you feel particularly and depressingly old?

For example, the fact that Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger are all nearing the end of their careers — that makes me feel old. TikTok’s general existence, makes me feel old. Being hungover until Tuesday if I drink on a Saturday, makes me feel old. The Office being off the air for almost seven years now, makes me feel old as fuck.

That’s right, my fellow in the midst of a slow march to middle age friends, The Office concluded its ninth and final season in May 2013, making it almost seven years since the beloved Steve Carrell-starring comedy went off the air. For further context of just how long ago 2013 was, Leonardo DiCaprio had yet to win an Oscar, the Miami Heat were the defending NBA champions, and Barack Obama had just begun his second term as President.

Which is exactly what makes NBC randomly dropping the full version of the famed Micheal Scott film-within-a-TV-show Threat Level Midnight so bizarrely hilarious. Here we are, just minding our own business on a casual Tuesday afternoon, and here comes the full, 20-minute version of one of The Office‘s most hilarious running jokes: Threat Level Midnight.

Threat Level Midnight, which originally aired in season 7, famously took Michael Scott over a decade to create. Seeing Scott take up the role of secret agent Michael Scarn, Threat Level Midnight revolves around Scarn’s attempt to stop criminal mastermind Goldenface.
