Sources at the Academy Awards say that Best Actor nominee Timothee Chalamet and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner walked out of the ceremony in the middle of the broadcast. According to these insiders, the abrupt exit came after the 30-year-old Marty Supreme star was the butt of numerous jokes.
The crux of the barbs at Timothee Chalamet’s expense were the comments he made about ballet and opera earlier in the month.
“I admire people, and I’ve done it myself, who go on a talk show and say, ‘Hey, we’ve got to keep movie theaters alive, we’ve gotta keep this genre alive,’ and another part of me feels like if people want to see it, like Barbie, like Oppenheimer, they’re going to go see it and go out of their way to be loud and proud about it,” Chalamet said in an interview with Matthew McConaughey.
His comments prompted immediate backlash from various artistic communities, leading to the following jab from Oscars host Conan O’Brien.
“Security is very tight tonight. There’s concerns about attacks from the ballet and opera communities,” Conan joke.
“We’re vibing, right?” he later asked Chalamet, before quipping “He doesn’t think so.”
Alexandre Singh, the winner of Best Live Action Short Film for Two People Exchanging Saliva, also took a shot at Chalamet, saying: “We believe art can change people’s souls. Maybe it takes ten years, but we can change society through art, through creativity, through theatre and ballet — and cinema.”

According to sources who were at attendance at the 90th Academy Awards at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater, Chalamet and Jenner left the ceremony for around an hour after the barbs.
“Onlookers told The Sun Timothée and girlfriend Kylie Jenner, 28, walked out of the ceremony for an hour amid the drubbing. They said: ‘Timothee and Kylie were replaced by seat fillers for an hour. It seems like he had enough of being the butt of the jokes. They only came back just before the Best Actress and Best Actor categories were announced.'”
